Day 16 — Equals
And hath made of one blood all nations of men
for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath
determined the times before appointed,
and the bounds of their habitation (Acts 17:26).
I've often said that evolution is a racist philosophy. It might surprise you to know that in this age of "race dialogue, race riots, and race crimes," even though the Bible does not use the word "race," it has much to say about these issues. The Bible only uses the words "nations, tribes, kindreds, and tongues" to describe the various people groups on the planet. The above passage in Acts 17 tells us that God made "of one blood all nations of men."
Because of the popularization of Darwinian evolution, people started to use the word "race" the way Darwin did — to mean that there were different groups of humans who were at different levels on the evolutionary scale. Of course, it resulted in racist attitudes. That's why I don't believe we should use the word "race" today when referring to human groups.
The Bible talks about tribes and nations, and tells us that all the tribes and nations today are descended from Adam and Eve through Noah and his three sons, Ham, Shem, and Japheth. The event of the Tower of Babel split up the population and spread it over the earth.
It's a shocking and sad fact of history that evolution taught and still does, if we're really honest, that certain cultures are closer to the apes than others. It wasn't that long ago that the Australian Aborigines were thought to be the "missing link" between apes and humans.
By the way, most people don't realize that ALL human beings are in reality exactly the same skin color. We have a pigment called melanin. If you have a lot of melanin, you can be very dark, even black. If you have a little bit of melanin, you can be very light, or you can be any shade in between.
It can be shown quite simply from genetics that if we started with Adam and Eve as middle brown, which is the majority of the world's population, then from these two people, you could have children who are black or light brown, or anywhere in between, in just ONE generation.
Dad: Your children are looking to you for a reaction to people of different skin tones. The Bible tells us that we are not to have malice or hatred in our hearts toward each other. God's Word is very clear that He is saving people out of every nation and tribe . . . He is not excluding people from His kingdom because of the shade of their skin. We are to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matt. 22:39).
Prayer: Father, help me have the courage to tell my child(ren) that God wants us to love all people, no matter what shade of color their skin is. Help me see this for myself, and to share this truth with my family and friends.
